People are constantly looking at others. However, it isn’t always a good thing that someone is looking your way. The Evil Eye is a well known symbol in multiple cultures/beliefs, and is very popular in the Mediterranean and West Asia. It is, as the name entails, a “look” or “stare” that is believed to bestow bad luck and misfortune onto a person for reasons of envy or dislike. When someone has given this “stare”, it is typically when the receiver is unaware. There are three types of the evil eye; unconscious, intended, and hidden. The first and most common type is unconscious. Unconscious is when a person unconsciously gives someone the evil eye, either by accident or just not realizing what they are doing when giving someone an envious glance. The second is when the glance is given with the intent to harm another person. The last and possibly the most scary is the unseen, hidden evil eye. This is when someone has multiple reasons to give you such a bad look like jealousy, and envy with the strongest intent of someone being harmed. In simple terms to define the overall eye evil, it is someone’s jealousy that is used to affect one’s own good fortune, and make it so a person has something very unlucky happen to them or for one to feel bad physically or psychologically. To help guard against these envious looks, it is said that the blue and white glass eye can ward off the evil eye and its effects. If the talisman breaks, it is said that this is when it has absorbed the harm, jealousy, envy and so forth, thus protecting the wearer.
